About Prime Consumers
We are a small editorial team in Denver, Colorado, explaining how big things get built — and why the bill so often ends up bigger than the plan.
Who we are
Prime Consumers (primeconsumers.com) is published by Prime Consumers Inc., based at 700 17th St, Suite 1500, Denver, CO 80202, USA. We write long-form, general-interest pieces about construction, infrastructure and the money that moves underneath them. Our readers are not engineers or quantity surveyors; they are people who drive past a new bridge or read about a stalled project and want to understand what actually happened.
What we write about
Our beat is the human and financial side of building. Landmark projects that ran over budget. Why a tunnel can be an engineering success and a financial disappointment at the same time. How land, politics and deadlines shape a structure long before any concrete is poured. We are more interested in decisions and trade-offs than in technical specifications.
How we work
Every piece is written by our own editorial team. When we describe a real project, we rely on accounts that are publicly and widely reported, and we flag figures that are estimates. Big construction costs are notoriously hard to pin down — some totals include land, borrowing or later repairs and some do not — so we use phrases like "roughly" or "reported at" rather than implying precision we do not have. We never make up numbers, and we do not treat any single source as the final word.
What we are not
Prime Consumers is not an engineering firm, a cost consultancy, a law practice or a financial adviser, and nothing on this site is professional advice. We do not rate or recommend contractors, and we do not take money to write favourably about any project or business. If you have decisions to make about a real building or investment, please speak with a qualified professional.
Our standards
- Clear sourcing. When we are repeating what has been reported rather than something we have verified ourselves, we say so.
- Honest approximations. Figures that are rough are labelled as rough.
- No pressure tactics. No countdown timers, no artificial scarcity, no promised results.
- Fixing mistakes. Show us an error and we will correct it and note the change.
